If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!I don’t know Mike, never met him face to face and only recently discovered his blog - but we almost have 2 things in common [or should that be said that we have two things almost in common?]
This is [...]

Are you replaceable?

The Ikonographers’ recent post reminded me of a discussion I had over 30 years ago. But first - in a recent blog post The I. wrote:

I have really been impressed with the providence of God in moving the pieces of the puzzle around to meet all the needs. When the prospect of this new ministry [...]

Life’s Grit and Glory

What a beautiful concept in this guest post on Adam’s AskingY blog from an African friend of his.

Our main strategy for AIDS prevention isn’t teaching abstinence, as important as that is. Our main purpose is leading students to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus. Long-lasting behavioral change, which is absolutely necessary to stop the spread of [...]

Try chess for a change

Chess? Really?

This school is a part of the Alternative School Network in the city of Chicago. 100% of students are “students-at-risk” who already dropped regular schools. The school was founded 30 years ago by Mr. Sampson who is still the current Principal/CEO. Chess does make a big difference in turning these young men around.

In it for the long haul

Read a great article in the online version of the Bay City Times:

Helping young people grow spiritually has been Lew Tibbits’ mission for 27 years.

Virtual banking; [...]

Training of volunteers.

Kevin raises some very interesting ideas about training volunteers in youth ministry. He is working on

e-learning: We have created online training for new SWITCH leaders that share the vision of our youth ministry. Any new leader gets an application and watches this 20 minute video. After that I set up a time to meet with [...]

Faith or Family or Future?

I must state, right up front, that I am not a fan of surveys. Maybe I am sceptical or just cynical. But to me a ‘good survey makes you go - yeah, I agree with that, I knew that [and therefore almost denies the cause for the survey in the first place]
Or, alternatively, it makes [...]

Does the church patronise our young people?

This online newspaper article in the Bellevue Leader poses a challenge to the church:

Since the 2004 election, Ryan Crnkovich has had an interest in politics. Now, the 17-year-old has an opportunity to speak to the Nebraska government about issues teenagers face every day.
Crnkovich, a student at Gross Catholic High School, is one of 25 [...]

So - where do I start?

I had a great conversation recently with a young man I have known for a number of years. We get together [face to face] every few months when he has got something to talk about. Often the topic is relationships [he is a university student] and this recent meeting was no exception - BUT - [...]
